While SWTOR shamelessly
copied WoW, in one regard it managed to improve on its template right from the
start: its quest presentation. Now of course fully adopting that system would
be too much work (for starters, the full voice dub for quests) or too much work
and wouldn't add that much (the mostly cosmetic dialogue choice system),
cutscenes should be relatively easy to implement (at least I think so) yet
still add to the game: visual representation.
The one thing I never
understood about the use of cutscenes in WoW was how rare they were - it's not as if they were fully rendered, they're
just a polished version of the ingame graphics. Also, they never really show
the PC, just the NPC bigshots. Making cutscenes more abundant (ultimately making
them a regularly recurring element for all the important quests) and also
making them show the PC as a, for lack of a better word, participating actor instead of a "player prop" for the first time would be a nice addition and help with the immersion.
An ingame graphics cutscene, showing the player’s character. |
